DANVILLE, Ill. (WAND) - Six buildings have been approved by the City of Danville to be demolished by next year at Fair Oaks Apartments.
Housing Authority Executive Director Jaclyn Vinson says one of the main goals as an apartment complex is to improve the quality of housing.
The buildings have been around since the 1940s and 1950s and as a result, it was just time to demolish.
"There are work orders called in for malfunctions within the building systems," said Vinson.
A total of 57 families will have the option of relocating or receiving a tenant protection voucher. At this time, the housing authority is contacting all the residents in the buildings and helping them with any questions or concerns they may have.
"We would like to leave the places as green space to de-densify the complexes that are here ... also to allow the residents that we have out here to have more park-like settings within the development," said Vinson.
Fair Oaks Apartments has also been approved for an additional demolition that will begin in 2021. At this time, the apartment complex is waiting for the City of Danville to provide them an estimate of how much the demolition will cost.
