CHARLESTON, Ill. (WAND) – A tornado ripped through the Coles County Fairgrounds in Charleston on June 17. Two buildings collapsed with only 20 days to make repairs.
Thanks to a community-wide effort from volunteers and businesses, the Coles County Fair opened on time.
A show ring and hog barn that collapsed were replaced with new structures. Even though several buildings still have damage, most of it is not noticeable.
This year's Miss Coles County Fair is Chloe Hettinger of Mattoon.
