Chatham crash victims

CHATHAM, Ill. (WAND) - Funeral services for the victims of the Chatham YNOT crash continue this week.

Four children were killed and six others were injured in a crash that happened at the YNOT After School Camp Monday after a car crashed through the building.

The girls who were killed were:

  • Ainsley Johnson, age 8, of Chatham

  • Rylee Britton, age 18, of Springfield

  • Kathryn Corley, age 7, of Chatham

  • Alma Buhnerkempe, age 7, of Chatham

Illinois State Police said the 44-year-old driver of the vehicle involved in the crash was not intoxicated or under the influence of any substances at the time of the crash. ISP have said it is suspected she may have suffered a medical emergency.

Funeral arrangements for all four of the victims have been made.

Visitation for Ainsley Johnson was Friday, May 2, from 12 p.m. until time of services at 2 p.m. at Springfield First United Methodist Church, 2941 South Koke Mill Road, Springfield, IL 62711, with Rev. Roger Grimmett officiating. Burial followed at Horse Creek Cemetery in Pawnee.

A celebration of life for Alma Buhnerkempe will be held on Saturday, May 10 from 12-5 p.m. at the TRN Club, 25 Lakewood Dr., Chatham, IL 62629. If you have pink or purple attire, you are encouraged to wear it in her honor.

Visitation for Rylee Britton will be from 3–7 p.m., Monday, May 5, at Cherry Hills Church. An additional visitation will be held from 10-11 a.m., Tuesday, May 6, 2025 at Cherry Hills Church. Her funeral will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, May 6, at Cherry Hills Church with Pastor Jeff Nelsen officiating. Burial will follow at Old Salem Cemetery.

Visitation for Kathryn Corley will be from 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 7, at Church of the Little Flower, 800 Adlai Stevenson Dr., Springfield. Visitation will begin with a prayer service at 4 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, May 8, at Church of the Little Flower, with Rev. Al Kemme, celebrant. Burial will follow at Chatham Memorial Cemetery.
