SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) - In a major boost for the arts community, Governor JB Pritzker, alongside the Illinois Arts Council (IAC), announced a substantial funding package totaling $16.2 million.
This grant initiative will benefit 1,123 artists, arts organizations, and communities across Illinois, empowering the state's creative sector and enhancing regional arts initiatives.
“The arts enrich our lives, our communities, and our culture,” Governor Pritzker stated during the announcement. “With federal arts funding under threat, I’m proud Illinois remains committed to investing in our talented artists, encouraging young people to follow their passions in the arts, and expanding community access to these vital initiatives.”
The funding marks the first quarter of the fiscal year 2026 and includes several key programs: the Creative Accelerator Fund (CAF), General Operating Support (GOS), Youth Employment in the Arts (YEA), and Regional Arts Partner grants.
These programs aim to fortify the state's cultural landscape and encourage community engagement through the arts.
Highlights from the FY26 grant allocations include:
- The Creative Accelerator Fund distributed $1 million to 100 artists statewide, with each recipient receiving a $10,000 award designed to enhance Illinois' creative workforce.
- A significant portion, over $14.6 million, was awarded through General Operating Support and the Youth Employment in the Arts program to 1,023 organizations. This funding aims to create sustainable arts programming while providing job opportunities for young individuals aged 14 to 22, helping them grow in the arts sector.
- The Regional Arts Partner Grants, totaling $575,000, are designed to allow partner organizations to develop grantmaking processes that are responsive to local community needs.
"These grants are a powerful investment in the artists, arts organizations, and communities of Illinois. By supporting our creative ecosystem, we are fostering innovation, cultural diversity, and economic vitality across the state," said Nora Daley, Chair of the IAC Board.
