TAYLORVILLE, Ill. (WAND) – Hospitals in central and southern Illinois are warning of dire consequences if federal attempts to cut Medicaid go through. The CFO of one hospital calling the potential cuts “devastating.”
Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) met with hospital executives during a news conference at Taylorville Memorial Hospital in Christian County. He heard from Jay Hodges the CFO of Carlinville Area Hospital.
“This would be devastating if these kinds of cuts happen,” Hodges told Durbin. He went on to say nearly 20 percent of his small community hospitals patients are on Medicaid.
Taylorville Memorial, which serves a population of nearly 25,000 in Christian and Montgomery counties, says about 18-percent of their patients depend on Medicaid for their medical care.
Senator Durbin says the Medicaid cuts will be a priority when he returns to Washington next week. He went on to say the Democrats only need 3 Republicans to side with them to stop the proposed Medicaid cuts.
