On Dec. 3, WAND News reported that an Illinois appellate court ruled that Grayson was to remain detained until a hearing on Jan. 2.

Days later, Grayson's attorneys filed an emergency motion requesting the Illinois Supreme Court order Grayson's immediate pre-trial release. That motion was denied.

Grayson was charged for the murder of Sonya Massey in July. Body-worn camera footage was released from a 911 call that showed Grayson shooting Massey during an exchange over a pot of water in her home. After the shooting, he failed to give Massey medical help.
