Swaar suffered a skull fracture after he was accidentally hit by a shot put during a track meet on Saturday, May 3. He is currently recovering in the hospital.
"He's receiving excellent hospital care, and while his condition remains serious, we're encouraged by the early signs in his recovery journey," said Jennifer Durbin, the school's superintendent.
Durbin says the school is thoroughly reviewing the safety protocols for their athletic events.Â
She also says that Illini Central has counselors available for students that need emotional support. Parents should contact the school if they believe their child needs those services.
