GIBSON CITY, Ill. (WAND) - Federal investigators found that a central Illinois grain silo operator violated safety standards after a worker suffered a serious foot injury.Â
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) began investigating Alliance Grain Co. after a worker had stepped through an open sump hole and onto a moving conveyor.Â
OSHA issued six total citations alleging the company had failed to train staff and ignored several significant safety protocols for entering grain bins and working around heavy machinery.
OSHA fined the company $276,407.Â
Additionally, Alliance Grain has 15 days to request a meeting with OSHA's area director or contest the findings before the Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission.Â
