(WAND) - The man accused of killing a Coles County board member and his wife last fall has pleaded guilty.
Edwin Pacheco Meza, 34, pleaded guilty on three of five counts on Tuesday, while two were dropped for reckless homicide and failure to reduce speed.
He received one 16-year and two 10-year sentences, which will be served concurrently at 85%.
Additionally, Meza will also get credit for 122 days of time served.
Meza was arrested in October 2025 after a crash that killed Coles County board member Michael Clayton and his wife, Gail.
Police said Meza crossed the center line and hit the vehicle carrying the Claytons head-on.
Questions around his immigration status led to outrage from local leaders after the crash.
