SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) - The Illinois State Board of Elections on Friday certified the results of the March 17 primary election.

1.89 million voters cast ballots for candidates seeking placement on the Nov. 3 General Election ballot.

Turnout for the primary was 22.81 percent with a partisan split of 68 percent Democratic ballots and 31 percent Republican ballots. Just under 1 percent of voters selected nonpartisan ballots that contained only local referenda or advisory questions.

Results from all primary contests can be viewed on the Illinois State Board of Elections website.

The official Vote Totals Book for the 2026 primary can be downloaded from the Vote Totals dropdown menu on SBE’s publications page.

Filing for independent and new party candidates for state offices in the Nov. 3 General Election takes place May 18 through May 26 at SBE’s Springfield office.

The ballot for the General Election will be certified on Aug. 21.
