CERRO GORDO, Ill. (WAND) — Cerro Gordo Fire Chief Brian Schoemperlen is retiring after 15 years with the department, the town's Fire Protection District announced on Saturday.
Schoemperlen joined the department in 2010, helping them "reach new heights, implement innovative practices, enhance training programs and strengthen community relationships."
"Chief Schoemperlen has not only been a leader in the field but also a mentor to many," said the District in a Facebook post. "His encouragement and dedication to developing the next generation of firefighters has left a lasting impact."
