CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) - A new Illini-themed Hilton hotel is coming to Downtown Champaign.
The Champaign City Council approved a development deal to give TIF money and other incentives to redevelop the blighted property on North Neil Street.
The 140-room hotel will also offer bars, restaurants and a coffee shop.
The project is expected to cost around $35-million.
Developers will get up to $7-million in TIF money and reimbursements from hotel tax generated once open.
"I want to thank staff, it's definitely an exciting project, and I'm definitely looking forward to seeing the results of this amazing project," said Deputy Mayor At Large Will Kyles.
The Graduate by Hilton line of hotels offers themed lobbies and rooms based on the college town they're located in.
The hotel must open in two years to receive all the city-offered incentives.
