CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) - The City of Champaign announced Thursday that construction has begun on Phase 2 of its Downtown Plaza. 

According to a Facebook post from the City, the project will include a splash pad, grass lawn, new gathering spaces, musical benches, additional bench swings and more.

There will also be improved access to public parking on Fremont and Hill Streets. 

The City stated that Washington Street will be closed between Hickory and Walnut Streets by the end of August.
