PAXTON. Ill. (WAND) - The City of Paxton is set to receive $850,000 in federal funding.

Rep. Robin Kelly secured the funding through an annual community project funding request.

The money will go toward improving Market Street to support small businesses and improve pedestrian safety.

Paxton Mayor Bill Ingold said the money is vital.

"We were pretty excited, I'll tell you that, because, I mean, it's gonna be probably right at a little over a million dollars to get it done. So the city is going to have to be involved, and they'll have some money in it too," Ingold said.

Ingold stated he hopes work on the project will begin in early 2027.
