SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) — Firefighters are working to put out a fire at a Springfield recycling center Wednesday.
The Springfield Fire Department said a large scrap metal pile caught fire at the Mervis Recycling location on 1100 S. 9th St. in Springfield.
The recycling center said in a Facebook post that everyone is safe and no injuries have been reported, and that the center hopes to return to normal operations later in the day.
It is unclear how the fire started.
The fire department said crews are monitoring air quality at the scene, and anyone with allergies or smoke sensitivity is asked to avoid the area.
