DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - The Salvation Army will host its Youth Alive Showcase Tuesday night, celebrating kids in Decatur.

The event will begin at 6 p.m. at the Salvation Army chapel at 229 West Main Street.

During the year, teens come to headquarters after school for food, a Bible study and creative arts.

At the showcase, they will get a chance to show off what they learned, ranging from dance to choir to ceramics.

Major Susan Summit said the program is focused on building character among at-risk youth.

"It does so much for their self-esteem, in such a negative world that has so much violence and everything, we want to show them there's an alternative and things can be better," Summit said.
