DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) — High temperatures in central Illinois have caused food trucks in Decatur to make changes to their businesses.
Turkey Man Owner Von Thomas shifted his hours to protect his staff.
"It's too hot to be in a food truck trying to sell some food today, I'm not going to have my staff do anything I'm not going to do," Thomas said. "I'm not willing to bear the heat; I'm not going to have them because safety is key."
Across town, the Tornado Truck used the heat to gain more customers.
The truck has strong cooling power to keep the staff cool.
Co-owner of the truck, Clint Brumleve, believed the system was paying off.Â
"We have a giant, five-ton air conditioning system in the truck, so it keeps it cool inside on days like these," Brumleve said.
Gyro King chose to tackle the heat head-on, despite not having an air conditioning system like the Tornado Truck.
Gyro King Owner Vasilios Chiligris chose to push through the heat for his customers.
"An average summer day, it's about 90 degrees in the trailer," Chiligris said. "It can reach up to 100 degrees on days like this; we just do the best we can, and if it ever gets too warm, then we just close it down."Â
