DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - The Decatur Public Transit System (DPTS) has partnered with Modeshift to launch its new contactless fare collection system.Â
Decatur Transit Pay allows riders to pay for their ride with a quick tap on their phone or a reloadable smart card.
The system will feature real-time data, helping DPTS improve routes and planning decisions, and a better understanding of what its riders need.Â
Officials said the new app will create shorter boarding times and make trips more accessible.Â
"It is going to streamline how people ride the buses. It's safer for everyone, and it's going to make our operations more efficient," said Lacie Elzy, director of the economic and community development and director of transportation services.Â
Riders can also use cash and punch cards for a few months during this transition.Â
