EFFINGHAM, Ill. (WAND) – The extension of an airport runway at Effingham County Regional Airport should help generate new business for the city of Effingham and the county.
“Our economic impact from this project is about, yearly now, $10 million,” Airport Commission Chairman Ken Wohltman told WAND News. “By having 6,000 feet (runway length), it gives us the flexibility to bring in larger aircraft.”
The airport is looking to increase the number of corporate jets that can land at the facility. Being able to bring in those larger aircraft is an economic development tool to attract new business and serve existing businesses in the area.
The airport is also working to build a new hangar.
