DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - Former Decatur City Councilman and Macon County Board member William Oliver Jr. has died, his family announced Monday.Â
According to Oliver's nephew, he was 89.Â
Oliver had served over 21 years as a city councilman and over 20 years on the county board.Â
He was the first Black man elected to the Decatur City Council.Â
"Bill Oliver was a great guy and an incredible public servant. He dedicated his life to making Decatur and Macon County better for all of us. He will be missed," Decatur Mayor Julie Moore Wolfe said in a statement.Â
Funeral arrangements will be announced at a later date.Â
