DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) — Firefighters were battling a fire at an abandoned foundry in Decatur Friday morning.
The Decatur Fire Department said crews responded just after 9 a.m. to the former Intermet foundry building near the intersection of North Jasper Street and Sangamon Street.
Crews arrived and found heavy fire coming from the building. According to the department, the incident was immediately upgraded due to to size of the building and extent of the fire.
Firefighters used ladder trucks to fight the fire with water cannons from above. The department said the fire was under control within 30 minutes.
North Jasper Street from Eldorado Street to Orchard Street was closed while crews were on scene.

DFD said the building was confirmed to be vacant, and there were no reported injuries.
The building was closed in 2005 by Intermet, a metal auto part manufacturer.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
