SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) - Gov. JB Pritzker issued a state disaster proclamation on Tuesday following severe storms that have caused widespread damage in multiple counties.Â
Pritzker issued the proclamation before visiting Effingham and Jefferson counties on Wednesday.Â
The proclamation will cover impacted counties in central Illinois, including Effingham and Coles.Â
"Illinois has faced unprecedented severe weather this year, and I remain committed to supporting every community, business and family as they rebuild. As communities recover, we remember the lives that were lost and hold their families and loved ones in our thoughts during this difficult time," Pritzker said in a press release.Â
An EF-3 tornado struck Effingham during a severe weather outbreak June 17. Multiple non-life-threatening injuries had occurred in the path of the storm, but no deaths were reported.
Additionally, Charleston and part of Mattoon were hit by an EF-2 tornado on the same day.Â
Illinois leads the country with 173 tornadoes, including 63 in the WAND viewing area.Â
