HARRISTOWN, Ill. (WAND) – Aging infrastructure is a significant problem for small communities across the nation. Replacing aging water lines, sewers and streets is often not possible due to a lack of money.
Illinois Congresswoman Nikki Budzinski came through with $1 million in federal funding for the Village of Harristown.
The village will use the money to repair and replace water lines in a system that is 50 years or older.
“Whether it’s a big city or a small village like Harristown, everyone deserves access to safe, clean and reliable drinking water,” Budzinski told WAND News.
Harristown expects to begin work on new water lines within the coming year.
