PAWNEE, Ill. (WAND) - Illinois State Police and the Capital Development Board (CDB) broke ground Thursday on a new canine training facility.

ISP said that the complex will help support law enforcement agencies statewide.

The facility will feature office space for up to 80 ISP officials and classroom areas, and a kennel for up to 20 K-9s with indoor and outdoor training.

"Upgrading ISP canine training facilities ensures officers and canines alike are well-equipped to keep drugs and guns off the street, solve missing persons cases and make our communities safer," said Gov. JB Pritzker in a statement.

Additional information on the ISP's K-9 Unit is available online.
