(WAND) - Tuesday night, NBC projected Juliana Stratton as the winner on the Democratic side for the Illinois 2nd District U.S. Senate seat.
Â
Stratton came out on top against Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi and Congresswoman Robin Kelly in a tightly-contested race. On the Republican side, Don Tracy was the projected winner and will face Stratton in November.
Â
Don Tracy told WAND News that he is excited about the Primary Election win, but knows there's still a lot of work to be done.
"Being a candidate and having inherent candidate insecurity, you really don't believe that it's happening until it's called. So even though the trend was good all night from the very beginning, we were in the lead. You know, it's not over till it's over," Tracy said.Â
Â
During a watch party speech, Stratton said she is motivated by the needs of the community.Â
Â
"Despite the fear, we never lost sight of what's most important. And that is courage. Courage inspired me to run. Courage powered this campaign, and courage will bring this fight straight to Donald Trump's door," Stratton said.Â
Â
The two will face off during the General Election in November.Â
