MATTOON, Ill. (WAND) - The Lake Mattoon Beach is set to reopen after closing due to higher-than-normal E. coli bacteria in the water.

Lake Mattoon, Marina and Campgrounds posted to Facebook Thursday that the lake will reopen daily from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The beach was closed for nearly a week after biweekly testing on June 25 showed E. coli levels of 344.8 and 325.5 per 100 mL.

New testing Thursday showed levels of 12.1 and 13.1 per 100 mL, well below the Illinois Department of Public Health's recreational water quality standard of 235 per 100 mL.

The remainder of Lake Mattoon, including the marina, is still open and was not affected by the closure.
