ARGENTA, Ill. (WAND) — The Macon County Conservation District is hosting a native seed collecting event next month.
Participants will walk through prairie habitats at the Friends Creek Conservation Area to gather seeds from native wildflowers. The seeds will be used for restoration projects to diversify prairies at other conservation sites.
"This is a hands-on way for volunteers to make a real impact on habitat restoration," said district Natural Resource Manager Mitch Lovgren. "It's also a chance to enjoy the beauty of Friends Creek while learning about native plants."
The district said equipment will be provided and no prior experience is needed. Volunteers should wear long pants, long sleeves and sturdy shoes.
The event will happen on October 4 from 9-11 a.m.
