SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) - The Illinois State Police and the Illinois State Police Heritage Foundation hosted the first Memorial Park ceremony in honor of Police Memorial Week on Wednesday.

Families of officers killed in the line of duty gathered to honor their sacrifice, including Trooper Todd Hanneken.

The Decatur native died in a crash near Bondville in March 2021.

There were no names added to the memorial wall this year, but it is still important to recognize the names already there.

"It's important to remember the fallen officers, and important to remember their families that they've left behind," said speaker Jim Jackson.

The ISP Memorial Park was completed in 2018.
