CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) - It's National Nurses Week, and the State Farm Center in Champaign is celebrating.

Lights are painting the center red this week to commemorate the occasion, as part of a nationwide campaign to light prominent buildings red for nurses, with Carle Health joining in this year.

Carle Health East Region VP of Patient Care Jaymie Green said nurses play a crucial role in the community.

"We get to be a part of the most vulnerable times in patients' lives, in the most sacred moments, and we just honor that relationship that we have with our patients this week, and we honor everything that nurses represent in our community," Green said.

National Nurses' Week runs through May 12.
