URBANA, Ill. (WAND) - The Urbana City Council approved Steven Doggett as the city's new fire chief.
Doggett was appointed for the rest of the term that runs until July 2027.
Doggett has served with the fire department for 19 years. He is also a field staff instructor at the University of Illinois Fire Service Institute.
Before working in Urbana, he was a police officer in Westville and a firefighter in Indiana.
The Urbana City Council also voted to reallocate American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) dollars.
The Cunningham Township's Bridge to Home project will receive $10,000, $15,000 will go to the University YMCA and Refugee Center New American Welcome Center, and another $15,000 to the Housing Authority of Champaign County.
The money was originally allocated to other organizations, which will not be able to spend the money by the Dec. 31 deadline.
