DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) – Sam, a Galapagos tortoise, enjoyed the hot morning, being sprayed down with mist from a hose as temperatures continued to scorch central Illinois.
Sam is a resident of Scovill Zoo in Decatur, where the friendly staff works throughout the day to ensure animals and birds have what they need in the heat.
Red Pandas have been moved indoors. Grey Wolves have piles of ice to lie on, or put in troughs to cool down. While Humboldt Penguins, native to South America, continue to swim all day in their outdoor enclosure.
Lizzie Van Ert told WAND News the animals at the zoo are doing well.Â
