URBANA – A popular chain of restaurants specializing in sushi will welcome a third addition at the University of Urbana Champaign’s Illini Union Thursday.
KoFusion already has two locations in the Champaign-Urbana area, with its original restaurant being in downtown Champaign on East Main Street and a second location in Urbana that opened on South Gregory Street in 2013.
A student survey conducted annually for the last three years indicated that KoFusion was one of the top Asian options for dining in the Illini Union. The menu features the eatery’s popular dollar sushi, house rolls, side and combos that include chicken curry and beef with broccoli.
Manager of Vendor Contracts, Lori Holmes says this latest addition to the Union will be a great way to please students while exposing them to high quality, traditional Asian food.
“We are very enthusiastic about this partnership as it fills a void identified by our students for local, fresh and healthy Asian dining,” Holmes explains.
The third restaurant will be located in the lower level of the Illini Union in its food court.
A grand opening ceremony will take place on Thursday, August 25, at 10 AM with a ribbon cutting. A limited number of free sushi samples will be available to try during remarks from Illini Union Board President Sophie Ruiz-Gehrt, KoFusion Owner Janet Bubin and Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and Director of Auxiliary Services Lowa Mwilambwe.
Once open, the Illini Union KoFusion will be open Monday through Friday, 10:30 AM to 8 PM, and 11 AM to 6 PM on weekends.
