DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) — With Election Day just two months away, local communities are preparing their election judges for the big day.
Although Sangamon County is nearly fully-staffed, County Clerk Don Gray said they are looking for more help. "There is always a need for more interested individuals to help us run our elections. You know, elections are run by people. It takes a massive amount of them for us to successfully provide for an election."
There is a state-wide training requirement, and each county is responsible for training their election judges. In Sangamon and Macon County, election judges can make at least $200 while working a 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. shift.Â
Joshua Tanner, Macon County Clerk, said his county is also nearly fully-staffed, but that becoming an election judge is always a helpful to the community at large. "If you're wanting to serve the community and you want to be involved in elections, it's the best way to do it."
Sangamon County will accept applications to be an election judge up until election day. Macon county will close applications in the next two weeks.Â
