DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - The Macon County Sheriff's Office says it has received nearly a dozen tips this past weekend in reference to three different unsolved murders.
Deputies say they received 11 calls for tips on the unsolved murders of Sherry Lewis in 1994, Caleb Witty in 2011, and Timothy Norris in 2015. During the Decatur Celebration weekend, Crime Stoppers increased the award amount for tips that lead to an arrest in any of those three cases to $100,000, courtesy of the Howard G. Buffett Foundation.
Macon County Sheriff's Lieutenant Jonathan Butts says, "The new leads are very positive. We're very excited that the public came forward, and we just thank them. It's always exciting to, for like our case, which is 23 years old, to have new information come in 23 years later."
The increased reward was only valid from 6 p.m. on August 4 through 12 a.m. on August 6. However, Crime Stoppers will still take tips on these three murders. If you have any information, you are urged to call (217) 423-8477.
