DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - The man accused of stabbing a Decatur mother to death has entered a not guilty plea.

On Wednesday afternoon, Latonian Johnson, 50, appeared before a judge for a preliminary hearing. 

Johnson is charged with 3 counts of first-degree murder, 3 counts of attempted murder, and 2 counts of aggravated battery.

According to Decatur Police, on August 20, officers responded to a report of an injured person at a home in the 1900 block of East Main Street. Officers found three victims who had been stabbed.

The victims were 38-year-old Dawnette Sigmon and her two children, ages 14 and 16.

According to police, Johnson took a knife and stabbed Sigmon after a verbal fight turned physical. Police said Johnson also stabbed the two children as they tried to help their mother.

Johnson's next appearance is Nov. 6.
