TAYLORVILLE, Ill. (WAND) - A man was able to climb out of a window to escape a house fire in Taylorville. 

The Taylorville Fire Department was called to the 3000 block of S. Spresser St. around 4 p.m. Sunday for a report of a house fire with someone trapped inside.

When they arrived, they found a house fully engulfed in flames and two cars on fire outside. A powerline had come down and was arcing in the front yard.

The homeowner was able to get out of the house on their own and refused medical treatment.

Firefighters were able to use hoses to battle the fire from the outside. It was too dangerous to try and go in.

Water shuttle operations were used because the available fire hydrants were far away.
 
Owaneco and Morrisonville Palmer provided help. Stonington Fire Department covered Taylorville while all of their units were tied up at the fire.
 
The house fire started a brushfire on the side of the property. Firefighters were able to knock it down before it spread to neighboring homes.

The Red Cross was contacted and our providing assistance to the homeowner.
 
The home is a complete loss, and the cause of fire is currently still under investigation.
