DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - Over $141,000 in federal funding will be going to the Decatur Airport.Â
U.S. Senate Democratic Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL) and U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) announced $141,874 in federal funding through the U.S. Department of Transportation's Federal Aviation Authority for the airport.Â
The funding will be used to construct 21,817 square yards of the existing south T-Hangar Apron pavement.Â
Durbin said, "By improving airport infrastructure, we are laying the foundation for increased connectivity and reliability while creating jobs. This federal funding for Decatur Airport will upgrade the airport's infrastructure and promote economic growth. I will continue working with Senator Duckworth to ensure our state's regional airports have the necessary federal resources."Â
Duckworth said, "Illinois's airports are critical economic engines for our state. I'm proud to join Senator Durbin in announcing this federal funding to help modernize and improve infrastructure at Decatur Airport. I will continue working to make traveling safer and more reliable for all passengers while ensuring that our communities are receiving the much-needed federal resources they deserve."Â
