DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) – A man lunged at another with a knife after he was questioned about damage to a toy truck, police say.
Just before 5 p.m. Monday, officers say a man became angry with Tony Williamson, 56, after finding his son’s toy truck moved and damaged in an apartment complex breezeway. The man confronted Williamson and demanded he pay $900 for the broken steering wheel moments before the suspect pulled out a knife, according to a sworn statement, and said “you don’t want to mess with a crazy person”.
The statement goes on to say Williamson repeatedly lunged at the man with the knife. Police say Williamson followed the man back into the building with the knife.
At that point, officers say the man pulled out a wooden club before punching Williamson in order to stop the attack. They say he then kicked the knife away from the suspect and dropped the club. Williamson is accused of getting on top of the man and threatening to kill him.
Police say the fight ended when the man put Williamson in a headlock and asked him to stop.
Williamson is charged with one count of aggravated assault with a Category 2 weapon. His bond is set at $5,000 in Macon County.
