RANTOUL, Ill. (WAND) - Revelyst Inc., formerly part of Vista Outdoor, in Rantoul may be laying off over 100 workers.
Revelyst, headquartered in Bozeman, Montana, is the outdoor-products spinoff of Vista Outdoor.
A WARN notice was received on September 4 stating that 126 employees may be laid off with November 3, 2025 being the first layoff date.
On September 4, Revelyst notified the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity of its decision to conduct a mass layoff at its facility in Rantoul.
The federal law, known as the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act, requires covered employers to provide 60 days’ prior written notice to employees, their representatives, and certain government parties in the event of a mass layoff or plant closing.
Employees must receive a WARN Act notice if they are laid off or if their hours are cut by 50% or more in any 6-month period because of a plant closing or mass layoff. A temporary layoff can still violate the WARN Act if it ends up lasting longer than six months.
Employers who do not follow the WARN Act rules, either by giving notice too late or providing unclear notices, may have to pay employees back pay and benefits for the time they were in violation.
A Revelyst spokesperson told WAND News in a statement:
"The WARN notice Revelyst issued Sept. 3 is related to the company’s decision to transition our Rantoul, Illinois, distribution center to a third-party logistics (3PL) provider, DHL Supply Chain. As part of the ongoing transition, many employees in distribution positions will be offered employment by DHL, which will integrate both the roles and the impacted Revelyst employees into its operations. DHL is working closely with the Rantoul distribution employees to ensure the transition is as easy and supportive as possible. Revelyst believes this partnership will enhance our logistics and drive greater efficiency, all while creating new career opportunities for Rantoul team members within DHL’s global network."
Rantoul Mayor Samuel Hall, III issued a statement over the decision that the company plans to transition some operations to a third-party provider.
“I was recently informed of Revelyst Inc’s decision to transition some of its operations to a third-party provider, which could impact approximately 126 employees here in Rantoul. While we are still gathering full details, I want to be very clear: my primary concern is for the hardworking men and women who may be affected by this decision, and for their families.
Our team has attempted to contact Revelyst leadership, in order to understand the magnitude of the potential effect on our local workforce, and to offer assistance for those navigating this change.
Rantoul is a resilient community. We have faced challenges before, and we will work closely with all parties involved to ensure our residents receive the support they need during this transition.”
Mayor Hall said the Village will continue to share updates as more information becomes available and will work with Champaign County Economic Development Corporation to help impacted families.
