DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) — A local server received a racist message rather than a tip while working at the Buffalo Wild Wings in Forsyth.

Sasha Harris was working her shift on Jan. 25th. After serving a table, she went back to pick up the receipt.

"When I went to the table, the receipt was flipped over and my pen was on top of it. I'm like 'okay, that's weird.' I never noticed anything like that. And I ended up picking it up. And when I picked it up, it says 'Nope' on a tip. And then I should 'go back to Africa,'" said Harris.

Harris said she had mixed emotions.

"It was kind of like, me being mad and me being upset too, because I'm like, 'it's 2025 and we're still going through this.'"

Her co-workers and manager put their support behind Harris.

"Eventually, I went to the manager and let him see it …. He called me to the back to go to the cameras to identify the person, and I identified him, and it went from there," said Harris.

Harris said that she has three children that she works hard to provide for. At moments like these, she refuses to let the negativity get to her. Instead, she uses it to make her stronger.

"There are people out there like that, but you don't have to let them dwell in it. And if you feel somebody is, you tell somebody.

Harris said she appreciates the community's support.

"I am actually really surprised by how many people were on my side … but it feels good to actually have the community be on my back and knowing that I'm not doing this by myself," said Harris.

WAND News reached out to the Forsyth location, but was told by a manager that they had been instructed not to speak to the media regarding this incident. WAND then called the Buffalo Wild Wings corporate office for comment, but the company has not responded.
