A Springfield alderman was caught in a prostitution sting this weekend.

Today, the Sangamon County state's attorney officially charged Springfield Alderman Sam Cahnman with solicitation of a sex act.

The state's attorney says Cahnman agreed with two undercover police officers to pay them forty dollars each in return for sex acts.

He was caught outside Bar Oasis, near Old State Capitol Plaza.

Cahnman's lawyer says he was simply engaging in "casual small talk" with the two women.

Cahnman maintains he did nothing wrong.

If convicted he could face 6 months behind bars or be required to pay a $2,000 fine.

Cahnman will be in court October 13th.

Springfield Mayor Tim Davlin has not commented on Cahnman's arrest.
