Springfield provides list of massage parlors closed by city ordinance

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) — Last week, WAND News reported that multiple massage parlors in Springfield had been closed for failing to abide by the city’s massage establishment ordinance.

On Tuesday, the city provided a list showing which establishments were closed.

The following parlors either failed to apply for the necessary permits or did not have licensed massage therapists during inspections, according to the city of Springfield.

Royal Massage
Sunshine Massage/Providence Massage

Red Bean Spa
Fitness Massage

"This is an ongoing effort to ensure businesses operating in Springfield adhere to local laws and maintain the proper credentials to provide services safely and legally," said Mayor Misty Buscher. “We will continue to monitor compliance and take necessary action to protect the well-being of our community."

Over the summer, Springfield City Council approved an ordinance requiring massage parlors to register with the city. City leaders cited concerns of human trafficking, including a federal investigation at one location in the city.
