SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) — A bill in Springfield to require all nursing homes in Illinois to have AED's on site passed out of the Senate health and human services committee unanimously.

The plan would also require training for workers in the building on how to use AED's. State Sen. Doris Turner (D-Springfield) said she was surprised this bill wasn't already a law.

"When you have this type of facility and you have individuals that are placed in your care then you really should be able to ensure that their health and wellbeing is at the foremost of every bodies mind," Turner said.

With the proposal passing unanimously out of the Senate committee the bill will now head to the Senate floor.
