FARMER CITY, Ill. (WAND) — A 16-year-old, and a 17-year-old have been accused of robbing a Casey's General Store with a toy gun.
The Farmer City Police Department received a report of armed robbery at Casey's General Store located at 800 E. Clinton Ave, around 10:40 Sunday evening.
Casey's employees told police that the two suspects had entered the store, stole alcohol, and that one of the suspects had displayed a handgun during the incident and battered an employee.
The suspects fled the store on foot and were last seen running northwest towards the old railroad right-of-way.
Officers found both suspects a short time later near the intersection of High Street and Route 150.
The suspects were identified as boys aged 16 and 17.
According to police, the gun was later located on the path where the teens had fled and was found to be a toy.
The teens were transported to the DeWitt County Jail and held until they could be transported to a juvenile detention facility.
The 17-year-old was charged with aggravated battery, and the 16-year-old was charged with aggravated robbery and aggravated battery.
