At the time of the Armory Building's completion in 1914, it was the largest structure without a center support in the world. In 1924, the building was given its well-recognized look with the addition to the facade, which was completed by Charles A. Platt. The building's original center structure design, created by William Carbys Zimmerman, remains mostly unchanged.
