SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) — Visitation and funeral arrangements were held for Sonya Massey in Springfield Friday.
WAND News was at the funeral but chose not to stream it live out of respect for Massey's family.
The 36-year-old Springfield woman died after being shot in her home by a Sangamon County Sheriff's deputy on Saturday, July 6.
That deputy, Sean P. Grayson, was booked on first-degree murder charges as well as aggravated battery with a firearm and official misconduct Wednesday afternoon.
Massey's visitation took place from 9-10 a.m. The funeral was held from 10-11 a.m., both at Ruby Funeral Services & Crematories at 1520 East Washington Street in Springfield.
Pastor Cary Beckwith was officiating.
She is being buried at Oak Hill Cemetery.
