SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) - An arrest has been made in connection with a five-year old murder case in Springfield.

On April 29, 2019, at 12:06 p.m., Springfield Police Department officers were called to the 1600 block of North 7th Street and found a man, Joseph M. Sommer II, 45, of Springfield, dead inside.

Sommer, who lived alone at the home, had a single gunshot wound to his upper body.

The investigation into Joseph Sommer’s death has been ongoing since 2019.

On Friday, November 8, 2024, Morgan C. Allin, 36, of Springfield, was arrested for first degree murder.

On Wednesday, November 13, 2024, Allin was indicted on three counts of first-degree murder by a Sangamon County Grand Jury and made a court appearance on November 21, where she was arraigned on the murder charges.

Allin is next scheduled to appear in court on January 6, 2025. She remains detained in the Sangamon County Jail.

Officials said the arrest of Allin was the result of complex investigative follow-up including countless hours of interviews and the processing and analysis of physical evidence.
