Woman leaves child alone at doorstep

SPRING, Texas (WAND) – Home security video shows a woman leaving a child on a doorstep and driving off.

It happened late Wednesday in the town of Spring, which is north of Houston, when the woman can be seen lifting the 2-year-old toddler by the arm and putting him on the porch, then ringing the doorbell and knocking. She then can be seen driving away in a white car.

The homeowner opened the door, found the child and called 911. Child Protective Services in Texas took custody of the boy before he went back to his father, who KPRC reports told deputies a friend of the mother left the child at the wrong house.

Deputies told NBC Dallas-Fort Worth the mother sent to a text message to the father saying she planned to drop the boy off with him Wednesday. When she ended up in the hospital, she asked a friend to do it. The father assumed the mother had decided not to drop the toddler off when he never came and left home Wednesday evening, investigators say.

The person who lives in the house where the unknown woman took the boy said they didn’t know who the adult or child was. Deputies are in the process of looking for the woman who left the boy.

Investigators say the woman could face a felony charge for child endangerment.Â
