DANVILLE, Ill. (WAND) — Thousands of white grave markers in perfect lines all across the National Cemetery in Danville. In mid-December they will start being covered with wreaths for the Christmas season. But there is a problem. A lack of money.
Wreaths Across America pays for the wreaths. But right now in Danville there is only enough money to pay for 300 wreaths. In 2023 volunteers put down 5,800. The cemetery has more than 12,000 graves.
The group needs donations fast since the money needs to be raised by Thanksgiving weekend, less than one month away.
To donate go to ‘Cover Danville National Cemetery’ on Facebook. Or the website: www.wreathsacrossamerica.org. To volunteer call Tammy Williams at 217-516-2354.
A ceremony to put out the wreaths is scheduled for December 14, 2024 at 11am.
