Entering the 2025-26 campaign, Petrovic was considered a big pickup for Brad Underwood's squad, averaging more than 14 points-per-game in the ABA. The Serbian's shooting and ball-handling ability made him a viable asset to the roster.
However during the season, Petrovic's role was muted. He appeared in 18 games for Illinois, typically in circumstances where the outcome had been decided.  He averaged 1.7 ppg, 1.2 assists, and 0.7 rebounds. Petrovic's best performance came against UTRGV, where he scored 12 points and added 4 assists in 16 minutes of action.
Seton Hall finished last season with a record of 21-12, with a 10-10 record in Big East play to finish 4th in the conference standings.
